Phantom Lovers: Two Novellas

Phantom Lovers: Two Novellas

by Achala Moulik

Phantom Lovers comprises two lyrical novellas- With Fate Conspire and Wait!

With Fate Conspire narrates how, despite the antagonism between the imperial British and the subjugated Indians, a young British magistrate, Julian, is entranced by Radha, a zamindar's daughter in Bengal. On a stormy night they elope to their planned paradise-until the Mutiny of 1857 intrudes on their lives. Their romantic attachment takes them across strange frontiers of time and space until they are united once more.

Wait! is an inspiring story of Rustom, a young Afghan academic and Minoti, his Indian student in London University, who are caught in the tumultuous events that come to Afghanistan in 1978. Rustom is taken as prisoner after a bloody coup in Kabul and is imprisoned in Khandahar. Minoti searches for him for seven years even when others tell him that he is not alive. But she does not give up hope. Rustom is freed and returns to London where Minoti is waiting for him.

The Many Roads to Renaissance

Russian

by Achala Moulik

This unique book is on how civilizational reawakening came to five nations - India, Russia, Italy, the Arab world and Japan. The author briefly narrates the chaos that prevailed in these countries until external influence and internal ferment created the scenario and conditions for a renewal or renaissance of the culture and politics of these countries. She describes what has not been narrated before - that even wars and conflicts, invasions and foreign rule worked as a catalyst for the renaissance and reawakening of nations.
